Internship | Modelling thermal energy short-term storage for gas-free sustainable houses
About this position
We want to create a healthier built environment that is renewable but also comfortable and productive. One of the ways TNO contributes to a more sustainable planet is by changing the materials we use to build our homes and offices. This internship position is about finding the optimum way to apply energy storage materials to reduce the energy use of existing buildings by renovation.
What will be your role?
In this project, a study will be done on the optimum design of a phase-change-material-based heat buffer for zero-energy renovation of existing houses.
The internship will last between 5 and 9 months, depending on the preferences of the candidate.
You will perform your task as part of a project team of approximately 3 TNO researchers, including your TNO supervisor.
What we expect from you
You are in the final stages of your degree in applied (building) physics, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or a similar degree. You are:
- Interested in researching materials for building and energy storage applications,
- Experienced in COMSOL modelling,
- Pragmatic and focused on making things work.
Next to technical expertise we value a high level of independence and ability to work remotely, good communication and presentation skills and a results-driven attitude.
