Senior consultant energiemarkets- and systems

Contributing to tomorrow’s energy supply. Envision it. Become a consultant at TNO in Amsterdam

About this position

As a consultant, you’ll work in projects focussing on tomorrow's energy system. What will the electricity market look like with further growth of wind and solar? How can existing grid capacity be used more efficiently, how do we prevent overloading, and what does integration with heat supply solutions look like in the future? What role will storage play and how can it be implemented? You’ll contribute to scientific research on changes in energy markets and systems, and work on research and advice for public authorities and market players in the transition to a sustainable, climate-neutral energy system.

What will be your role?

As a consultant, you’re an important link between our clients and the project teams. Grid congestion and optimisation, new market models and market organisation, storage, and demand-side management are themes at the heart of your work. You’ll work on several research projects simultaneously at different stages of implementation. For example, in the morning you’ll work on a proposal for a new project in collaboration with project developers and market players, and in the afternoon, you’ll brainstorm with colleagues from various research groups on a scenario concerning a new market organisation in the event of far-reaching electrification of industry. On another day, you’ll prepare a client meeting and put the finishing touches on the final report, translating the findings into clear texts. You’ll also oversee our projects in their entirety to see if we’re on track to meet our technical and social objectives. In this position, you’ll collaborate on the implementation of applied research and the detailed elaboration of the requested solutions. So, you’ll work on concepts for the future, but thanks to your quick-thinking skills, you also know how to make them applicable.

You’ll work with 80 highly skilled professionals within the Energy Transition Studies (ETS) department in Amsterdam. This department carries out interdisciplinary research and policy studies on the physical, technological and economic changes required for the energy and resource transition, as well as its institutional and social aspects. Research projects are carried out both at the national and international level and ETS collaborates extensively with public authorities, companies, consultants, and universities. Together, we contribute to reducing CO2 emissions to 55% by 2030 and net zero by 2050.
