Scientist Energy Applications | Eindhoven

Contributing to energy innovations that benefit the world we live in. Envision it. Become a Scientist Energy Applications at TNO in Eindhoven.

About this position

We want to create a healthier built environment that is renewable but also comfortable and productive. One of the ways TNO contributes to a more sustainable planet is by changing the materials we use to build our homes and offices. Optimizing energy use while designing new buildings, for instance. Or, finding new energy generation materials. As a system integrator energy applications at the Netherlands’ leading research organisation, you can bring profound change. Based in Eindhoven, you’ll be part of a company that aims to use innovation to achieve a sustainable society.

What will be your role?

At TNO, we believe in the power of connecting people through knowledge. As a Scientist energy applications, you’ll be working with a team of talented scientists at our Materials Solutions research group (MaS). Here, you’ll be responsible for developing durable and sustainable materials and systems for energy applications in the built environment. You’ll execute, coordinate and report on research projects related to the interaction between materials and energy systems that can be used for energy harvesting, storage and conversion. Recent projects have included solar control coatings on building parts, thermal heat harvesting in building skins, and thermochemical materials (TCM) for energy storage. In this role, you’ll act as a linking pin between various units and departments. Project acquisition for Dutch and European funding schemes are also part of your job. You’ll initiate new projects and collaborations in your field of expertise, while continuously developing and maintaining a network of industrial and research partners.

What we expect from you

You are proactive with a customer-oriented attitude and result-driven. Whether you’re communicating through writing or talking to your team, customers or partners, you can express your thoughts and findings in a clear and concise manner. While fluent in English, you understand that Dutch will be an asset in this role and you’re eager to learn the language.

Other knowledge and skills you bring to TNO:

  • A PhD in (building) physics or a related field of material science and technology.
  • At least five years of experience working in material science with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and research engineers.
  • Familiar with energy systems and/or a related field of application.
  • Experience with writing project proposals for national and/or international funding.
  • Some project management experience.
