Internship | New Generation Wind Farm Flow Models
Contributing to [XX]. Envision it. Become a [JOB TITLE] at TNO in [LOCATION].
About this position
The assignment will focus on the development of a flow field prediction model capable of bridging the complexity of high-fidelity Computer Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models and engineering models at wind farm level. The approach will be defined based on literature research on existing methods such as Reduced Order Model (ROM) or Neural Networks (NN) or a hybrid combination of the two (physics-based & data-driven). The model will leverage the information gathered by pre-run CFD simulations of the wind flow in a wind farm. The resulting model will be compared against existing models (CFD, Engineering) to assess the performance against the state-of-the-art.
What will be your role?
In this project, you will both develop knowledge of hybrid data-driven and physics-based modeling methodologies for flow field prediction as well as produce a functioning (python, or similar) implementation.
Your work will be carried out in our Wind Energy department. This department houses approximately 60 experts with in-depth knowledge of wind energy technology.
You will be working from the Delft offices located on TU Delft campus, as well as in the Petten office, supervised by 2 to 3 Wind Energy Experts.
What we expect from you
We are looking for MSc students in relevant areas i.e. (Wind)Energy Technology, Aerospace Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Computer science Engineering, etc. with the following characteristics:
- Enthusiasm for research and technology development.
- Interest in wind energy.
- Technical knowledge of numerical implementation or willingness to learn.
- Coding experience in Python or similar languages.
- Knowledge in either data science (Tensorflow, Scikit-learn, or similar) or in Reduced Order Modeling (ROM).
- Background in Fluid Mechanics is a plus.
- Good knowledge of the English language.
- Available to work at least 32 hours for a period of 4 to 6 month
