Senior Project Manager Defensie | The Hague

Contributing to innovations that advance the Defense organization. This is our time! Become a project leader at TNO in The Hague.

About this position

The Dutch Defense organization is renewing its ways of working and business operations, with a focus on information. Combined with new technological possibilities, this creates interesting challenges. Think of developing technical IT building blocks and IT architectures that align information processing with business processes. In this context, you play a crucial role. As a project leader, you integrate the ideas of colleagues and collaborators into solutions for the challenges that Defense faces. It is a job with impact, where you contribute to the development of the Defense organization and, thus, to peace and security.

What will be your role?

You will work on multiple projects simultaneously, collaborating with colleagues to develop new architectures and concepts in interaction with the client. Within the Defense domain, we have two types of projects: target funding for knowledge building (long-term) and client projects (shorter-term). For target funding projects, you, together with the program leader, translate it into concrete projects with corresponding teams. In this role, you are responsible for the progress of projects and ensure that the results are implemented within Defense. You also have specific attention to setting up follow-up projects where acquired knowledge is applied. For client projects, you, together with the business developer, prepare the proposal, focusing on feasibility within the defined constraints (time and cost). After the contract is awarded, the Defense contact person becomes your client, and your task is to complete the project within the specified constraints.

Your home base within TNO is the Advanced Computing Engineering research group. In this group, we demonstrate the feasibility and value of innovative applications of information technology for businesses and the government. We work on challenges related to designing and testing cloud & edge applications for defense with certain constraints (such as poor network connection), processing and analyzing large amounts of data, and applying AI/ML in distributed environments. Our teams in The Hague and Groningen consist of approximately fifty experts, a mix of applied researchers, system architects, and IT systems and processes consultants. We are a social team, and we are all here to help you. At the same time, we are very curious about what you have to teach us!

What we expect from you

You derive energy from contributing to innovative concepts that promote peace and security. With your communication skills and persuasive power, you know how to get partners, financiers, and colleagues on board with your proposals. Additionally, you bring out the best in the people you work with. While switching between projects, you maintain an overview and keep the overarching strategy in mind. Moreover, you approach unforeseen issues with flexibility and a results-oriented mindset. Furthermore, you bring:

  • A master's degree or PhD in computer science, technical business administration, business information technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a project leader, based on an IPMA C accreditation or equivalent.
  • Preferably, knowledge of the Defense organization, operational processes, and ICT systems (C4I), or the drive to deepen your understanding in these areas.
  • Good verbal and written skills in Dutch and English.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 5.300,- and € 7.100,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:
