Internship | MSc Graduation Internship: Circular Initiative Business Models

About this position

At the Strategic Business Analysis (SBA) department of TNO, we focus on analysing, supporting and bringing technological innovations to the market with the intention of creating economic, social, and sustainable impact. We do so by combining and integrating knowledge on technology, private business, and behaviour in many inter-disciplinary teams as part of projects for organizations, local and national governments, and European institutions. We participate in the CISUFLO project (https://www.cisuflo.eu/), funded by the Horizon Europe program. The project aims to guide the flooring industry's shift towards the circular economy. Our role is to explore how: - Tech innovations aid circularity in flooring companies. - Value networks adjust for circular principles. - Flooring industry policies and mindsets impact circular transition.

What will be your role?

We seek an MSc student in their final phase, interested in investigating why circular business concepts in the flooring industry fail or succeed. You will explore challenges and opportunities in these concepts' adoption. Many models, like take-back systems or flooring-as-a-service, are tested with varied outcomes. Understanding the reasons behind success/failure aids scalability and provides insights for organizations.

During the internship, you'll collaborate with TNO experts in business, circularity, and policy. Engage with CISUFLO project partners to grasp practical flooring industry challenges and opportunities. Your project advances circularity literature, focusing on circular business adoption hurdles and prospects in the flooring sector. Your research spans collaborative business modeling, circular economy, and transition management.

What we expect from you

We seek a student who:

  • Is in the final phase of a master's degree with strong grasp of strategic/management theory, inter-organizational collaboration, and innovation.
  • Comes from Business and Entrepreneurship, Strategic Management, Innovation Management, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or related fields.
  • Has interview experience, applied research affinity.
  • Is broad-minded, curious, and proactive.
  • Explores how tech innovations create real-world value and can be marketed.
  • Converts abstract ideas into understandable concepts.
  • Thinks analytically and communicates clearly.
  • Has moderate Dutch proficiency (B2) for limited Dutch partner interaction.
  • Can be present in The Hague office at least twice weekly for collaboration with TNO professionals and supervisors.
