TNO has exceptional expertise in radar technology, ranging from FMCW and MIMO radars to advanced phased arrays. You will work in the Radar Technology department within the Defence, Safety and Security unit of TNO. Your role
With the constant evolution of sensor radar systems, the volume and quality of data are increasing dramatically. The environment in which radar systems have to operate is also very dynamic, while the spectrum is becoming increasingly crowded. New waveforms and signal processing must deal with this in an improved way to extract the right information needed for decision-making. That's why you’ll design, research, evaluate, and implement new, optimal waveforms, in combination with the latest digital signal processing techniques. This includes detection, estimation, tracking, classification, digital beamforming, MIMO processing, etc. As a signal processing expert, you transform complex signal processing problems into well-formulated mathematical methodologies. Moreover, you quantify platform-dependent performance differences and determine optimal processing strategies for new sensor concepts to be developed.

As a leading European R&D partner in the field of radar technology, TNO's Radar Technology department develops the whole range from complete system concepts and architectures to integrated microwave circuits and antennas. We research and apply new techniques such as compressive sensing, deep learning, and quantum-enhanced radar technology. We have a large, strong team of radar experts, including not only signal processing experts but also software engineers, hardware developers, EM/antenna designers, and other experts, working together in an open and relaxed atmosphere to meet our clients' needs. You’re an analytical, organised team player who communicates easily with colleagues from different areas of expertise and backgrounds. You’ve mastered the basic theory of adaptive algorithms, machine learning, waveform design, and data and array signal processing. And you would like to expand your knowledge in these areas. Working at the interface between research and applications, you come up with creative ideas and know how to get your colleagues and stakeholders excited about your initiatives. You’re able to clearly explain the intricate details of data and signal processing to clients and other parties.

Other knowledge and skills you bring to TNO:

• a master's degree complemented by several years of relevant work experience or a PhD in electrical engineering, physics or computer science;
• a scientific background in one or more of these areas: information theory, statistical signal processing, and detection and estimation theory;
• experience in radar or similar applications (including, for example, telecommunications) is a clear plus;
• thorough knowledge of MATLAB and/or Python;
• willingness to work at least 3 days at the office (The Hague) for interaction with your team and Radar Technology colleagues.

We offer a gross monthly salary between € 3.300,- and € 5.100,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180).
