Process Engineer Mass Customization of Solar Technology | Eindhoven

Would you like to contribute to the development of the next generation solar panels and systems while working in an exciting, innovative and creative workplace? As Process Engineer Solar Technology, you will be working on developing the next generation of solar technologies through the technical operation and improvement of a large range of solar systems and processes that will support the large scale roll-out of solar technology in the Netherlands and Europe. The Solar Research groups of TNO consist of a diverse and international team of about 80 professionals in Eindhoven (NB) and Petten (NH). Together with industrial and scientific partners and customers, the group works on research and development in the field of solar technologies and its integration into our living environment. To this end, we have excellent technical facilities and in-depth expertise on all aspects of the PV value chain; from small cells to scale-up processes on one of our semi-industrial pilot lines. Furthermore, these solar cells and modules must have a circular design and be intrinsically reliable and safe. This entails new process and equipment development, reliability and lifetime testing, concept development, prototyping, field-testing, development of advanced performance models and materials research. Our ambition is to make solar energy the sustainable energy source of the future with technology that will significantly outperform the current generation and which can be integrated everywhere.

We are looking for a mass customization Process Engineer. 

As a mass customization Process Engineer, together with the team, you will work on research and development on our mass customization pilot line to enable large scale production of customizable solar laminates. The focus lies on process development and optimizing production processes. Most importantly, you will be responsible for operating and further developing the pilot-line, developing new innovative half fabricates and acquire new domain-specific knowledge and adapt them in your work. You have a feeling for in-line characterization, quality control, data management, system engineering, and have or want to acquire knowledge about processes and materials for solar technologies. The Solar team you will work in is a very diverse, international team with knowledge and know-how from a wide range of backgrounds. Our work requires real team effort. You will spend most of your time with the team in our labs where the machines are, but the work also requires collaboration with colleagues within the Eindhoven and Petten offices. The position is located mainly on the High Tech Campus and Brainport Industries Campus hotspots in Eindhoven, where you have every chance of inspiring contacts with other labs and companies.

You are hands-on and do not shy away from opening up a machine. You are open to learn new processes and techniques. You like working together with other engineers and in multidisciplinary teams in an R&D environment. You do not mind occasional travel between our Eindhoven and Petten facilities.

In addition, we expect you to:

• Have a Bachelor or Master Degree in a technical or natural sciences field, for example mechanical engineering, mechatronics or applied material science;
• Be an excellent team player;
• Be pro-active and hands-on;
• Have experience in structured experimental design and test design;
• Having experience with processing (PV) laminates is an advantage;
• Having experience with web handling is an advantage;
• Have experience in working in an R&D environment;
• Good oral and written communication skills in English.
