Air is a significant intermediary in the transmission of chemical pollutants, such as volatile organic compounds (VOC) and aldehydes. This happens both indoors and out. Exposure to these chemical pollutants via indoor air is caused, for example, by the 'leakage' of chemical pollutants from all sorts of construction materials and products in our environment.
The government is imposing standards on the exposure of employees to harmful substances. TNO can perform research to inspect the air quality in the workplace. As well as in the workplace and other indoor environments, people come into contact with pollutants when they go outdoors. For example, traffic and industry are both rich sources of emissions. TNO has international expertise in the field of developing and validating methods for sampling and analysing air (indoors, outside, in the workplace).
