Geological Survey of the Netherlands (GDN)

Knowledge of the subsurface plays an important role in the Dutch energy supply. The Geological Survey of the Netherlands (GDN) is charged with identifying the natural capital in the subsurface such as energy, groundwater, building materials and underground storage space. The GDN also plays an indispensable role in advising and informing on the safe extraction of gas, the shutting down and reuse of existing wells and the opening up of geothermal energy as a source of sustainable heat. The GDN also provides insight into natural risks that often manifest themselves as a water problem in our low-lying country; think, for example, of subsidence and weak soil.
