TICAM extracts the values of parametric cable models in order to replace measured data by a model. This leads to a fast conversion of cable measurements into models for dedicated cable simulations.
Fast conversion of cable measurements
TICAM extracts the values of parametric cable models in order to replace measured data by a model. The use of models has various advantages, including:
for predicting the cable characteristics at arbitrary cable lengths (although you have measured the cable at only one length);
for predicting the cable characteristics at arbitrary frequencies (although you have measured the cable at only a distinct number of frequencies);
for specifying all these characteristics with no more than 5-15 real numbers (although you measured thousands of them, 8 reals for each frequency);
for use in simulators, for instance to calculate the transmission through a cascade of different cables (each with its own characteristics and loop length), or to calculate the performance of DSL modems when deployed over twisted pair copper loops.
How does TICAM work?
TICAM extract the cable parameters in a strict order and in an interactive manner with the user. Most of it is done automatically and the user can inspect all kinds of intermediate results, but when needed the user can also overrule some of these intermediate results where needed. This extraction process follows a five step approach:
Step 1: Importing a two-port; the s-parameters measured on a real cable
Step 2: Extracting secondary cable parameters
Step 3: Extracting primary cable parameters
Step 4: Selecting a parametric cable model, from a library with predefined models
Step 5: Fitting a parametric cable model within a few seconds.
The model parameter that have been found and all plots can be exported to the clipboard, and several intermediate results can be exported to file as well.
