Fungi and algae on building materials are blots. Surface fungi may give cause for health problems and aggressive fungi damage the structure. However, the right choice of building material can often prevent such problems.
The cause of the damage often lies in a combination of aspects: the building itself, its use, the location, the building materials, finish and maintenance. Architectural inspection and a study of the materials in the laboratory can usually point to a specific solution. In our laboratory we can assess which products are able to withstand biological attack and which can't. This is an important consideration not only in identifying the cause of the damage in practice but also in developing improved products.
