RESEARCH AREA

The research area of Telematics broadly covers applications processing information (‘matics’) on distance (‘tele’). Main research interest here is Service Development, Management and Operations. That is, businesses, delivering innovative products/services face the challenge to set-up appropriate service management processes, systems and organization that meet demand for superior customer service, interworks in complex business eco-systems and deals with strong competition.

Research covers the design of adequate service management. An important application is given by Billing and Revenue Management. The current application domain of the chair is the design of reliable sustainable energy systems. In the transition to a sustainable energy system with the uptake to higher TRLs (Technology Readiness Levels) more and more focus will be needed for well thought Service Development. This is in line with the goal of TNO to accelerate the energy transition and head for an international leading position.

RECENT RESULTS

In the period 2020 -2021 main results:

  • Lecturing in the MSc Course Technology-Enabled Innovation (5EC); understanding the phases of product/ service/system innovation, and relating these phases to the strategic, tactical and operational processes in a company, in particular in service development.
  • Participation in ETIP SNET WG4 “Digitalization of the Energy System and Customer Participation”: Initiated Big Disruptive Research Idea “An end-to-end democratized approach to energy digitalization”. 
  • Participation in granted H2020 projects HOLISDER, MAKING CITY, POCITYF, BD4NRG • Participation in Joint Research Program TNO- Fraunhofer “Smart Energy Infrastructure for Energy System Transformation”, WP3 on System Operation.
  • Participation in the ADAPNER project (NWO Vital Logistics). End-report: Green Chains, Adaptive Logistics in Circular Economy (2020).
