Telmo da Silva Lope

You can contact me for advanced materials, particularly on alternatives to toxic and critical raw materials. I connect public and private institutions with our research teams to develop initiatives related with alternative sourcing, material replacement and design for circularity
Telmo da Silva Lopes is a Business Developer at TNO and the Brightlands Materials Center, where he supports the translation of advanced material innovations into impactful, market-ready propositions. He holds a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering and a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Porto, complemented with stays at TU Eindhoven and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB, Germany).
Following his PhD, Telmo co-founded a deep-tech startup focused on renewable gas purification, where he led multidisciplinary teams, secured innovation grants and transformed early-stage research into viable technology roadmaps. This entrepreneurial experience strengthened his ability to connect scientific development with real-world application.
At TNO, he brings together stakeholders across disciplines to ensure research addresses concrete societal and industrial challenges, and he develops partnerships and commercialisation strategies for emerging material technologies. His current focus areas include alternatives to toxic and critical raw materials (including PEM electrolyser applications), thermochromic coatings, building- and vehicle-integrated photovoltaics, and inductively triggered reversible adhesives for multilayer products.
