Internship | Graduation Modernization of Team Site UI/UX

About this position

The Space Systems Engineering team is looking for a motivated intern who is interested in improving how colleagues interact with our internal SharePoint team sites. We recognise that our current sites are not as clear or intuitive as they could be, and we want to better understand how users navigate, find information, and experience these digital environments. Your role will be to explore how people use the sites today, identify where the experience can be improved, and help shape a more usable and visually appealing design. This assignment is well suited for students who enjoy looking at the connection between people and technology, and who want to apply their knowledge of user experience, usability, and interaction design in a practical setting. You will be the person bringing this perspective into our team, and we will support you by providing access to users, context, and the SharePoint environment. The project offers a meaningful opportunity to make a real impact on how teams access information and collaborate within TNO.

What will be your role?

You will investigate how users interact with several team SharePoint sites and propose a design approach that makes the sites clearer, more visually appealing, and easier to navigate. You will work closely with colleagues across departments and collaborate with the intern responsible for documentation inventory. Your activities will include:

  • Assessing current SharePoint team sites for design quality and usability issues
  • Gathering user feedback through surveys, interviews, or short usability tests
  • Designing and testing new layouts, navigation structures, and visual elements
  • Implementing improvements in SharePoint and documenting the changes you make
  • Collaborating with the documentation inventory intern to integrate improved structure and organized content into the new site design
  • Your results will help the organisation to access information more efficiently and will enhance the overall user experience of important internal platforms.

What we expect from you

You are an HBO student who is curious, creative, and motivated to improve digital experiences. You enjoy understanding how people use information and translating their needs into clear and appealing designs. You are comfortable working with team members from different backgrounds and asking questions when things are unclear. In addition, you bring:

  • Interest or experience in UI and UX design
  • Familiarity with SharePoint site customization, or a willingness to learn
  • Skills in user research, such as interviews, surveys, or usability testing
  • Creativity and problem‑solving ability
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work together with colleagues
  • A structured approach to planning and implementing design changes
