About this position
Are you ready to apply your IT expertise to bolster our national security? In a world of increasing geopolitical tensions, information technology plays a crucial role in defense. As an IT consultant within the Advanced Computing Engineering research group, you will work on projects that truly make a difference. You will bridge the gap between military operations and advanced IT solutions. Ready to take on this mission? Read on!
What will be your role?
The Advanced Computing Engineering research group develops and demonstrates innovative IT solutions for both public and private sectors. We focus on areas such as big data processing, predictive analytics, large-scale simulations, and human interaction with complex data systems.
Our team of over fifty professionals includes a mix of researchers, architects and IT consultants. We are diverse, collaborative and ready to both support and learn from you.
One of the key domains we work in is national security. For example, we support the Dutch Ministry of Defense in its digital transformation. The organization is adapting its operations and workflows with information at the core. Emerging technologies introduce complex and exciting challenges—such as designing IT and data architectures that align with operational processes, managing data across multiple classification levels, updating software on mission-critical systems, and enabling secure data exchange on platforms with limited connectivity.
As an enterprise architect, you will play a key role in addressing these challenges. You will work on multiple projects simultaneously, developing forward-looking architectures and concepts in close collaboration with colleagues and clients. Your mission: to bridge operations, business processes, and IT in order to create innovative solutions that meet the Defense organization’s evolving needs.
What we expect from you
You support clients by carefully analyzing their challenges from different perspectives. You’re skilled at identifying the most relevant viewpoint and aligning it with the interests of key stakeholders. Building regular contact with clients comes naturally to you, and you provide clear, constructive feedback with confidence, even when that involves addressing inconsistencies. You also provide reliable technical advice that supports sound and informed decision-making.
Additionally, you bring:
- A master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Business Information Technology, Technical Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience with an enterprise architecture approach to translate business and information needs into the setup of information systems.
- At least three years of relevant work experience where you have gained practical insights.
- Having familiarity with the Defense organization, its operational processes and ICT systems (C4I), or a strong willingness to learn, is considered a plus.
- A strong advantage is having experience in creating architectural views using methodologies like TOGAF or NAF and translating them into a clear customer perspective.
- Fluency in both Dutch and English is essential.
What you'll get in return
Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 4,500 and € 6,600 (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.
