Business Developer Energy Supply | Rijswijk
Want to make your mark on our time? Become a Business Developer Energy Supply at TNO in Rijswijk!
About this position
At TNO Energy and Materials Transition (EMT), we research and develop groundbreaking innovations that enable us to achieve our climate goals of net zero by 2050. EMT Energy Supply focuses on creating a surplus of renewable and circular energy within a stable and affordable energy system. That is why we are working on (1) scaling up high-tech production methods for renewable energy, (2) maximising the deployment and rollout of renewable energy projects, and (3) optimal integration of renewable energy into the energy system. As a business developer, you actively contribute to accelerating societal transitions, strengthening the earning capacity of the Netherlands, and enhancing the resilience of our society.
What will be your role?
The energy and materials transition is in full swing, and you are needed for the next phase! As a Business Developer, you initiate innovative projects together with private and public partners. Typical organisations you collaborate with include developers of wind, solar, storage and conversion projects, the manufacturing industry, technical service providers, and utilities. In addition, governments, universities, and other knowledge institutions are important stakeholders.
Together with a motivated and dedicated team of business developers and researchers in Rijswijk, Petten, and Eindhoven, you translate our innovations into commercial opportunities. You bring our expertise to the market and translate market demands into applied research projects. In this way, you ensure that our groundbreaking ideas and solutions lead to lasting economic and social impact.
Maintaining and expanding our (industrial) network is indispensable. You have frequent contact with (potential) clients and are therefore often on the road within the Netherlands. Several times a year, you represent us abroad.
What we expect from you
You are creative, a natural connector, enterprising, persuasive, and a skilled networker. You possess knowledge of and affinity with technology for sustainable energy (wind, solar, storage, and conversion, or a combination thereof is an advantage). You have a keen eye for customer and market needs and excel at translating these needs into applied research projects.
You have broad interests and understand that maximising the deployment and rollout of renewable energy goes beyond merely reducing costs. For example, you have demonstrable experience in energy, yield management, risk reduction, smart operations, cyber security, ecology, or circularity.
Other skills and knowledge you bring to TNO:
- At least 10 years of experience in business development or similar roles (e.g. project development, sales, account management);
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant discipline;
- A technical background or a strong affinity with technology;
- Experience in drafting applied research proposals;
- Excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written);
- Concrete experience in the development of sustainable energy generation (wind and solar), storage, and conversion, or a combination thereof is an advantage;
- A relevant commercial network in the wind sector is an advantage;
- Command of Dutch is an advantage. If you do not speak the language, TNO offers Dutch language courses.
What you'll get in return
Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.
TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:
