Programme Manager Radiopharmaceuticals – Leiden/Hybrid – 32-40h

About this position

The Health & Work Unit consists of about 350 highly educated and entrepreneurial professionals who work on technological innovations with real-world impact. We do this by developing and bringing innovative concepts to market. Our goals for 2030 are ambitious: to accelerate drug development by two years, halve the prevalence of lifestyle-related diseases, give every child a fair start in life, and ensure that 80% of the Dutch population has suitable work. As Programme Manager Radiopharmaceuticals, you will make a major contribution to achieving these ambitions.

What will be your role?

As Programme Manager Radiopharmaceuticals, you will work within the Future Affordable Sustainable Therapy development (FAST) expertise centre, operating at the intersection of entrepreneurship and academic research. The focus of this position lies in the development and availability of affordable new therapies, particularly radiopharmaceuticals.

We are looking for a candidate with excellent knowledge of the radiopharmaceutical field and drug development, who can build and maintain multidisciplinary connections. Someone who can foster collaboration within the dynamic world of R&D to help position the Netherlands as a leader in affordable radiopharmaceuticals.

In this role, you will serve as an important guide and connector for patients, clinicians, research institutes, companies, and government bodies. You will use your own network and expertise, while also leveraging the national network strategically.

You identify opportunities to improve and accelerate therapy development, translating them into strategic goals and collaborations within the FAST hub NUCMED-NL. You will lead and facilitate research and development activities that contribute to establishing a cohesive and efficient infrastructure for developing and making radiopharmaceuticals available in the Netherlands.
With a focus on societal value creation, you will collaborate with the field to showcase how affordability and innovation can go hand in hand in this domain.

In all your work, you will operate with a high degree of independence, focusing on:

  • Connecting and advising public and private developers;
  • Involving the necessary expertise to help developers bring innovative therapies to patients;
  • Uniting the radiopharmaceutical field within the FAST hub NUCMED-NL;
  • Identifying obstacles and accelerators in the radiopharmaceutical development chain;
  • Stimulating, exploring, and generating solutions—through experiments if needed—to address barriers in therapy development and translate them into systematic improvements;
  • Creating and securing support for piloting and implementing these solutions;
  • Establishing, expanding, and maintaining new innovative public–private collaborations in a liaison role;
  • Co-developing facilities with stakeholders to support researchers and entrepreneurs, with win–win partnerships at the core.

In this position, you will interact closely with partners in the national FAST network. Together with you, the team will consist of seven colleagues with whom you will collaborate closely.

The FAST Expertise Centre
Within the TNO Health & Work unit, FAST (Centre for Future Affordable Sustainable Therapy development) aims to establish and operate a coordinating expertise centre to accelerate, improve, and reduce the cost of developing, producing, and providing new therapies for patients.

The centre supports therapy developers—both academic and commercial—by connecting them to relevant (inter)national knowledge and expertise, identifying and addressing opportunities and bottlenecks throughout the development chain, and co-creating and testing potential solutions.

We are building this expertise centre together with partners in the form of a national network of hubs where knowledge and expertise are combined, and where pioneering work can be done to overcome challenges. Our initial focus areas are drug repurposing, cell and gene therapy, and radiopharmaceuticals, with particular attention to rare and infectious diseases. Collaboration across all stakeholders and patient participation form the common thread, as we strive to ensure innovation, entrepreneurship, and affordability go hand in hand. See www.fast.nl.

FAST is an initiative of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK). The FAST expertise centre is hosted by TNO, and your employment will be with TNO Health & Work in Leiden.
