Today, TNO and the XG Mobile Promotion Forum (XGMF) from Japan signed a Memorandum of Understanding. They formalised their intended collaboration, aimed at groundbreaking wireless communication solutions for the era beyond 5G and 6G. Tjark Tjin-A-Tsoi (CEO TNO) and Professor Akihiro Nakao (co-chairman XGMF) signed the MOU in the presence of H.M. King Willem-Alexander.

Strategic Partnerships

The signing took place during the Economic Mission Hightech and Digitalisation to Japan. Minister Dirk Beljaarts (Economic Affairs) led the mission. Dutch companies and organisations, including TNO, spoke in Tokyo and Osaka with Japanese organisations about the importance of strategic international partnerships. This collaboration is crucial between like-minded innovation-driven democracies in a changing geopolitical landscape. The programme emphasised strengthening the joint Dutch-Japanese knowledge position through knowledge exchange, especially in the field of joint high-tech R&D.

Potential of 6G

XGMF and TNO are leading in developing wireless communication technologies. These technologies are not only faster and more reliable than current standards but also enable new applications in various sectors. Within the Future Network Services programme, 6G use cases such as the wireless factory and logistical solutions with drones are being developed, making the potential of 6G very tangible.

Collaboration for a Global Ecosystem

Given the combined expertise of TNO and XGMF, we aim to collaborate to build and consolidate a successful global ecosystem for wireless communication, especially for beyond 5G and 6G. We encourage the collaboration of the 60 partners in the 6G Future Network Services Programme with the XGMF forum to stimulate innovation in these areas.

Innovation through Collaboration

By combining Dutch strengths in antenna technology, AI-driven network software, and innovative 6G applications with Japanese leadership in advanced hardware development, we can jointly create the next generation of wireless technology. This opens up a world of unprecedented possibilities and stimulates innovation in all areas of society.
