Information and sensor systems
A superior information position provides a crucial tactical advantage. It facilitates effective management of the military organisation and the deployment of resources. We help by devising and developing technology.
The Netherlands’ digital fortitude and resilience
Almost all vital processes and systems in the Netherlands are either partly or fully digitised. Digital fortitude, or cyber resilience, is therefore essential. This is why our scientists work every day on measures aimed at prevention, detection, response and recovery.
Our latest developments
Acoustics and sonar
The TNO Acoustics and sonar group strives to support governments and industry in the Netherlands and abroad to better understand, use and control sound.
With its significant knowledge base, the Electronic defence team provides an operational advantage to our customers.
Environmental effects of sonar
Marine mammal research is a key spin-off of the work of the Acoustics and Sonar department. This department wants to maintain and extend the national technology base in the field of sonar systems, the submarine environment and – defence against – submarine weapons.
Ocean resilience and transparency
Various civil parties use our expertise in the field of the ocean environment, including shipping, the offshore industry, ports and construction companies.
Military use of space
TNO has made four recommendations to make us less vulnerable to satellite failure or misuse on a civilian and military level.

In a military context, situational awareness, i.e., an understanding of how well you can see and how well you can be seen, is crucial. Turbulence degrades image quality and absorption by aerosols reduces contrast, which reduces the maximum distance at which you can see.

I work in Microwaves. I do so as long as I can remember, and I hope to do so for many years to come. With a passion for Radio since my childhood, my professional career has focused entirely on Phased-Array systems, and in particular on pushing the technologies that make them work, enlarging and envisioning phased-array capabilities in view of future operational demands.
