Sustainable and affordable measures

In our integrated systems approach, we analyse all modes of transport (road, water, rail, and air) and their effect on CO2 emissions. On the basis of the results, we develop concrete solutions. Companies can use them to take the right measures at the right time, sustainably and affordably. In doing so, we take into account the correlation between the effects of different measures.

Logistics construction hubs

New concepts in construction logistics can save you a lot of time and money. They also lead to improved traffic flow, fewer harmful emissions, and less disruption for the surrounding area. For example, it is possible to reduce the number of inner-city journeys to and from the construction site by some 50 to 80%.

Organising home delivery more sustainably

Among other things, we are studying how home deliveries, of packages and groceries for example, can be organised in a cleaner and more energy-efficient way. For example, by collaborating better in the chain and by increasing capacity utilisation. A good example is home delivery concept PUPPY (Pop-Up, Pick-Up, and Home Delivery). Because of the corona virus, people couldn’t or wouldn’t leave their homes to go shopping. Local entrepreneurs saw their sales fall sharply as a result. This project developed a short-term, cost-effective logistics collaboration model for entrepreneurs to pick up products and deliver them to consumers locally.

Action perspective for reducing CO2 emissions

At TNO, we provide insight into the consequences of the climate agreement. This makes it clear to government and the business community what choices they have to make in the short and the long term.
