Internship | Build a Live Dashboard for Smart Mobility Data
About this position
Do you want to build interactive dashboards that visualize live mobility data and help shape the future of smart traffic systems? At TNO Helmond, we are working on intelligent mobility solutions within the MARQ Connectivity Lab. One of the key goals is to make complex traffic data understandable and actionable through interactive web-based demonstrators.
What will be your role?
You will design and build a cloud-based dashboard that visualizes real-time mobility data. This dashboard supports use cases like Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) and Green Light Optimal Speed Advisory (GLOSA), helping drivers make better decisions through visual cues such as speed limits, traffic light status, and optimal speed indicators, all integrated into a Google Maps-style interface.
Objective: Develop a responsive, visually engaging dashboard that connects to a cloud-based Data Sharing Ecosystem (DSE), displaying live mobility data in a clear and insightful way for research, testing, and demonstration purposes.
In this internship you will start to create:
- A fully functional front-end interface with interactive map-based visualizations;
- Real-time integration with live mobility datasets (e.g., traffic lights, speed limits);
- Cloud-based connectors and APIs to pull data from a DSE platform;
- Support for ISA and GLOSA use cases in a demonstrator environment;
- Visually appealing dashboards using modern UI/UX principles.
Proposed approach:
- Design a scalable front-end architecture (e.g., with React or Vue);
- Connect to traffic data via REST APIs and cloud services;
- Visualize live data on a map (TomTom, Google Maps API or alternatives);
- Work with Kubernetes and Docker to manage containerized backend services;
- Collaborate with system architects and mobility experts;
- Optimize UI/UX for responsiveness, clarity, and usability.
What we expect from you
What we expect from you:
- Experience with modern web development (React, Vue, Node.js or similar)
- Understanding of REST APIs and data formats such as JSON
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
- Basic knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes is a strong plus
- Interest in map-based interfaces and smart mobility systems
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a team
We would like you to start as soon as possible. The internship fits into a 3 to 6-month project (based on full-time availability). Finally, successful candidates should be able to spend at least 3 days a week in our TNO Helmond premises to enable you to work with our tools and to have short communication lines.
