As a Linux Engineer you will fall within team Infrastructure team.
The infrastructure team consists out of 30 professionals with the primary focus on keeping the infrastructure which includes server- and storage systems, Lan and WAN connections and workplaces.
One of the Linux teams primary objectives is to develop and maintenance of multiple High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems, with dockers and Kubernetes.

What will be your role?
As a Linux Engineer you will be in contact with the business side a lot. You play a proactive role in the customers wishes, development and changes who can influence the continuity of our systems and applications.
Current changes we’re currently focusing on are cloud usage and global security.
Besides that, you get the chance to work with Kubernetes and building container platforms with ‘for instance’ Docker on (for example) an HPC.
The Linux team maintains a few HPC’s and configuring and maintaining these advanced High-performance computing clusters is part of their tasks.
You are a member of a team in a overly professional, innovative work environment with international top experts as colleagues.
But as a Linux Engineer you will of course also maintain and secure our virtualized IT-Infrastructure.
You will gain a lot of experience on several different Linux distros like RedHat Core & Enterprise, Debian, OpenSUSE/SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, Ubuntu, etc.
And you will work on Docker, Kubernetes, GPU-accelerated computing, and RH OpenShift.
All this while keeping TNO’s infrastructure secure.
You maintain the systems accurate and by established TNO-procedures and ISO standards.
What we expect from you
As a Linux Engineer you will be in contact with the business side a lot and play a crucial role when it comes down to optimizing and maintaining the Linux environment.
To perform this role correctly it is very important to recognize yourself in the following profile:
- You have expertise with Linux in an Enterprise environment.
- You got a passion for Linux. For you there is no other option that Linux is the primary operating system. You could however live, with the fact that this is not the case at TNO (as of yet).
- A finished RHCE or functional level experience is preferred.
- You got a passion for configuring and maintaining saft/hardware solutions but knows that documenting procedures and settings is equally important.
- TNO is dual language so you must be able to speak/write both Dutch and English.
- You play nice with others and am a team-player.
- You are sure you will pass our security background check and survive the AIVD and MIVD screening.

The selection process
Please apply before the 28th of February, 2025. The selection process comprises two interview rounds. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.
The selection process may include an online assessment and a reference check.
A certificate of Conduct (VOG) is required before starting a new job at TNO.
As you will be working for clients in the domain of defence and security, a Certificate of No Objection issued by AIVD (The Dutch General Information and Security Service) is mandatory. This means you will have to undergo a security screening. Read more about security screening.
