Project Manager Integrated Photonics | Eindhoven

Want to make your mark on our time? Become a Project Manager Integrated Photonics at TNO in Eindhoven!

About this position

To meet the ever-increasing demand for data and tackle society’s biggest challenges, faster and more energy efficient devices are crucial. Taking the lead in the development and production of such devices, TNO, University of Twente, and Eindhoven University of Technology and PhotonDelta have joined forces in the Photonic Integration Technology Center (PITC). Join our future pilot facility and work on cutting-edge photonic chips that use light instead of electricity. These chips are essential for AI, 6G, healthcare, and beyond. As part of the EU’s PIXEurope project, we are moving toward the realization of a new pilot production facility for integrated photonics at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven. In this role, you’ll help scale up production of a technology that keeps the Netherlands at the forefront of global innovation. This is your chance to work with top researchers and industry leaders, and to make real impact in a field that’s transforming the world at the speed of light.

What will be your role?

As Project Manager you will be working at the heart of the Netherlands’ Brainport region, contributing to the setup of a new pilot line Fab for the production of Indium Phosphide (InP)-based integrated photonic chips. This pilot line is one of five projects supported by the EU Chips Act under the PIXEurope initiative.
This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of an initiative that plays a critical role in strengthening Europe’s position in advanced semiconductor technologies.

As Project Manager, you are responsible for delivering project results on time and within budget. You will work on projects related both to the pilot line and to the broader PITC collaboration.
This position is based at TNO/Holst Centre on the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven and involves close collaboration with various competence groups across TNO and its research partners.

Your tasks include:

  • Creating and maintaining project plans;
  • Monitoring daily finances and maintaining an overall overview of both the pilot line project and the PITC collaboration;
  • Tracking progress on milestones and deliverables;
  • Managing project risks and coordinating financial and contractual matters;
  • Ensuring regular and transparent communication with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Reporting progress to PITC management, EU bodies, and other external partners.

You’ll work closely with the PITC management team, project controllers, and contracting support to ensure everything runs smoothly.

What we expect from you

You are a strong communicator and skilled organizer. You enjoy collaborating with diverse internal and external stakeholders and thrive on managing complex, high-impact projects.
You also bring the following qualifications:

  • A BSc or MSc degree in a technical or beta-science discipline, preferably related to photonics;
  • At least 5 years of experience in project management;
  • IPMA certification or equivalent is a plus;
  • Experience with EU-funded projects is an advantage;
  • Basic knowledge of finance, budgeting, and project control;
  • Familiarity with the legal aspects of contracts;
  • Comfortable discussing technical, legal, and business topics;
  • Fluent in English; fluency in Dutch is a plus.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary, 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:
