Internship | Evaluation tool for the study of green-hydrogen industrial use-case | Petten
About this position
The Sustainable Technologies for Industrial Processes (STIP) group at TNO is dedicated to accelerating the transition to a sustainable industry. Our work focuses on developing and integrating innovative technologies that reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and support the energy transition. Within STIP, we have deep expertise in electrolysis and in system integration, where we explore how different technologies interact with industrial processes and energy infrastructures. Our team works on real-world challenges, from scaling up electrolyser systems to integrating them into complex industrial environments. As part of STIP, you’ll be immersed in a multidisciplinary environment where engineers, researchers, and system thinkers collaborate to shape the future of sustainable industry.
What will be your role?
You will help developing a decision-support tool that aims to match industrial green hydrogen use-cases with suitable electrolyser technologies. As an intern, your work will help make the tool more accessible for internal and external stakeholders, including OEMs, decision-makers, and hydrogen end-users, starting from the visualisation and contributing to its further development.
During your internship, you will be learning about electrolyser technologies and and end-user requirements from domain experts in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
As part of your duties, you will:
- Create visual flow-diagrams of its functionalities.
- Improve and document the logic and rationale behind the tool’s matching process.
- Help structure and clean the underlying data.
Examples of tasks you might work on:
- Designing a PowerPoint storyboard that illustrates how a user would interact with the tool.
- Creating visualisations to represent how different use-case parameters affect technology selection.
- Drafting a guide and a flow diagram that explains the decision logic behind the tool in a clear, structured format.
- Supporting the further development of the tool.
- Contextualize your findings to support the development of roadmaps for different electrolyzer technologies.
What we expect from you
- You are studying energy systems, system engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field at HBO or WO level.
- You are interested in green hydrogen technologies, decision-support tools and expert systems.
- You have a good knowledge of Excel.
- You are proactive, structured, and able to carry out work independently.
- You are curious and keen to learn about the green hydrogen landscape.
