RF/Microwave IC Designer | The Hague

Leave your mark on our time? Come work at TNO in our Radar Technology group as RF/Microwave IC designer!

About this position

Radar systems are indispensable in the modern world. Whether for naval vessels, military drones, self-driving vehicles, or satellites, radars provide a reliable picture of the environment, day and night and in all weather conditions. Within the TNO Radar Technology department we possess exceptional knowledge in all of the key areas needed to develop state-of-the-art radars: EM/antennas, RF modules, IC design, and signal processing. If you are up to being challenged in an environment that is among the top in the world and if you are excited at the prospect of working with experienced colleagues on the design of ICs for RF and microwave sensors: then this might be your chance!

What will be your role?

MMIC Technology has become an essential part of modern radar systems, one that has been researched and developed for more than 25 years by TNO at its location in the Hague. With unique models and design tools, an excellent MMIC test facility and bold initiatives in developing prototypes, we have been able to make giant leaps in MMIC technology. In cooperation with major industrial partners, this technology has been further developed and incorporated in a formidable electronically-scanned radar. The impressive performance of the Dutch air defense and command frigates and new Holland-class patrol vessels is, to a considerable extent, based on the MMICs that have been developed and tested by TNO.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to leverage your experience in circuit design to drive projects that push the boundaries for impactful defense applications. You’ll collaborate closely with a dedicated team, fostering innovation and teamwork to deliver cutting-edge solutions.

Working alongside the design team and Radar Technology colleagues, you’ll have the chance to think beyond the chip level and to consider the bigger picture of radar systems. You’ll translate complex requirements into practical design solutions that perform seamlessly in their intended environment, while engaging in high-level discussions about design and technology trade-offs.

With tools like Cadence and ADS, you’ll work with (Bi)CMOS and/or III-V semiconductor technologies. You’ll also have the opportunity to work with RF measurement equipment and scripting languages like Python. With these tools you will design models, characterize and model components, and perform (non-linear) circuit and EM simulations, including lay-out optimization.

In short, this role offers you the chance to contribute to a safer world by advancing your expertise in circuit design and radar technology while making an impact through meaningful and innovative projects.
