Do you want to play a leading role in development and implementation of thermoplastic composite (TPC) recycling solutions, and contribute to our mission of establishing circular supply chains for plastic and thermoplastic (TPC) materials across Europe, contributing to CO₂ reduction and sustainable manufacturing? What will be your role?
Based at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus, the department Materials Solutions of TNO performs programmatic industrial application driven research in the field of polymeric materials that will provide solutions for the societal challenges of tomorrow. In our work we develop prototypes to demonstrate the feasibility of new technology concepts.
To emphasis the strong relationship with the ecosystem at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus we operate under the brand name Brightlands Materials Center. Our ambition is to play a guiding, orchestrating role in the development of breakthrough material solutions that create impact in both industry and society.
As Senior Consultant, you will co-develop our technology roadmap, engage with automotive and non-automotive sectors, and build strategic partnerships to create industrial and societal impact and valorize our technology and know-how.
This includes the following activities and responsibilities:
- You contribute to strategic advisory projects focused on plastic and thermoplastic composite recyscling.
- You structure complex, content-driven topics into clear roadmaps that offer direction and drive execution, and help to shape the market strategy.
- You contribute to TNO’s long-term research direction by identifying new scientific trends and business opportunities.
- You develop a strategic and economical perspective on topics related to recycling of thermoplastic composites, circular value chains and relevant application fields.
- You build strategic networks and consortia, including building the trust of customers, partners and authorities, and being their sparring partner.
- You identify needs of customers and partners, link those to (combinations of) relevant TNO expertise and translates this into project proposals.
- You launch public-private collaborations that deliver tangible societal and economic value.
- You exert influence on the basis of a shared vision, fed by the input from the research team, in appropriate networks, inside and outside TNO.
Your work will directly contribute to the realization of our business plan and position our organization as a leading orchestrator and R&D partner in circular plastic and TPC manufacturing.
Key to your success is your ability to inspire and forge constructive and collaborative relationships with the rest of the team, including scientists and researchers, program manager and business developer, as well as with the broader TNO organization leading to ground breaking impactful results.
What we expect from you
You recognize yourself in the following:
- You hold a Master’s or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or another relevant field; an additional business degree is a plus;
- You bring at least 10 years of experience in the field of engineering plastics or composites and have insight into and (domain) knowledge of (relevant) customers/ markets for TNO within field of thermoplastic and thermoplastic composite recycling; familiarity with the automotive supply chain is a plus;
- You possess strong conceptual and analytical skills and are able to translate complex technology and market needs into concrete innovation opportunities for industrial customers;
- You inspire others with your broad industrial background, domain knowledge and clear vision towards circular material use or circular business models;
- You possess strategic insight as well as political and organizational sensitivity, and a strong instinct for timing and positioning;
- You have co-initiated successful proposals for large strategic projects, including national or European programs as well as contract research;
- You have excellent communication skills in English; Dutch communication skills are strongly preferred as well.

The selection process
