Project Manager Data Ecosystems

Make your mark on our time – join TNO as a Project Manager Data Ecosystems

About this position

Are you eager to help shape the future of Europe’s data strategy? As a Project Manager Data Ecosystems at TNO, you’ll play a key role in setting up and managing complex, sustainable collaborations built on secure and seamless data sharing.

What will be your role?

Together with your multidisciplinary teams, you’ll ensure that our projects are delivered on time and within budget. From identifying the right expertise within your team to creating detailed project plans – you are the driving force behind project success. You spot potential bottlenecks early and make sure that project risks are managed proactively. When needed, you communicate directly with our clients or ensure that the right information is shared in a timely manner.

You look beyond the project itself: you understand client needs, think strategically about long-term collaboration, and know how to navigate the complex stakeholder landscape. You combine your role as project leader with a touch of consultancy and business development. From the acquisition phase – when you help shape the proposal or project plan (what do we promise the client, and is it achievable?) – to the final delivery, you are actively involved.

You don’t need to be the subject matter expert: you oversee the bigger picture, ask the right questions, and can clearly articulate the project’s vision and impact to (potential) clients and partners. With your open and pragmatic approach, you create a positive and collaborative working atmosphere where results come naturally.

In addition:

  • You actively participate in department meetings and coordinate with other research units when needed. You build and maintain a strong network both within and outside TNO.
  • You are responsible for the budgets and resource planning of your projects.
  • You ensure that all project administration is complete and up to date.

What we expect from you

  • You thrive on collaboration and enjoy working with people in a project-driven organization. You know how to adapt your communication style to different situations and personalities, driving progress while maintaining alignment. Working in an international research environment is familiar territory for you.
  • You have a strong sense of what matters to clients and partners, can balance multiple interests, and navigate complex dynamics with ease. You effortlessly switch between content, relationships, and strategy — from translating client needs into concrete project actions to spotting new opportunities for collaboration.
  • You are a connector: approachable, social, and capable of creating a positive atmosphere where people feel engaged and motivated. You’re a doer who helps teams move from ideas and processes to tangible results. With your down-to-earth and structured way of working, you bring clarity, focus, and momentum.

In addition, you have:

  • A completed bachelor’s or master’s degree and extensive experience as a project manager in a complex, research-driven environment.
  • Knowledge of research, innovation, and IT infrastructure architectures.
  • Experience in external stakeholder management and guiding client and partner relationships from acquisition to completion.
  • The ability to grasp complex technical topics at a high level and communicate them convincingly to clients and partners.
  • Excellent command of both Dutch and English.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between €4473,- and € 6888,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:

  • An extremely professional, innovative working environment where colleagues are leading experts in their field.
  • The opportunity to attend courses, workshops and conferences, and to receive training and coaching based on your needs.
  • 33 days annual leave on a full-time basis.
  • An employer that values and encourages diverse talent, with initiatives like the Female Leadership Program, our Rainbow Community and round tables on inclusion topics.
  • We offer a comprehensive and flexible mobility plan that also includes full compensation for public transportation for commuting and business travel.
  • Great social events with your team and other TNO colleagues. That’s how you will get to know a lot of people really quickly.
  • Flexible working hours, the possibility to work parttime (32 of 36 hours) and the possibility of working from home.
  • Access to TNO’s project managers guild: a network of some three hundred equals. The guild organizes workshops, conferences, intervision sessions and other activities for project managers.
  • A good pension scheme.
