Want to make your mark on our time? Become a Business Developer Pharma at TNO in Leiden!
What will be your role?
Introduction
The Health & Work Unit consists of over 350 highly educated and entrepreneurial professionals working on technological innovations with societal impact. We do this by developing groundbreaking concepts and bringing them to market. Our ambition: by 2030, to accelerate drug development by two years, halve lifestyle-related diseases, give every child a fair start in life, and provide 80% of the Netherlands with access to suitable employment.
Within this ambition, the Efficient Drug Development proposition plays a key role. As a Business Developer Pharma, you make a direct contribution by commercially valorising (primarily preclinical) research, with a clear focus on ADME, DMPK and bioanalytical expertise.
What will you do?
As a Business Developer Pharma, you initiate and realise collaborations with pharmaceutical and biotech companies, focused on applying preclinical research solutions and models that make drug development more efficient and predictable. You sell concrete research services and collaboration models in the field of ADME/DMPK, responding to current market needs. Key focus areas include GI (gastrointestinal), microbiome and generic bioanalysis (AMS).
Together with TNO experts, you clearly identify client needs and translate them into feasible and commercially attractive proposals. You manage acquisition trajectories from first contact through to contract closure and build sustainable client relationships. In doing so, you actively leverage and expand your network within the pharmaceutical sector.
You contribute to increasing TNO’s market share in preclinical research and support clients in accelerating their R&D processes, ultimately leading to better and more affordable treatments for patients.
In this role, you will
- Identify commercial opportunities within the pharma drug development trajectory, with an emphasis on ADME/DMPK;
- Develop and position value propositions for pharmaceutical and biotech partners;
- Conclude commercial collaborations and contract research deals;
- Work closely with TNO scientists to translate client questions into appropriate research solutions;
- Build and maintain a relevant network within the preclinical pharma sector;
- Contribute to the visibility of the unit through relevant professional events and networks.
What we expect from you
You combine a strong scientific foundation with commercial drive. You are comfortable in a role where deal-making, relationship building and results are central, within a complex and content-driven environment. You know how to build trust with clients, listen carefully to their needs and translate these into impactful collaborations.
You work in a structured manner on acquisition trajectories, maintain focus on progress and results, and move easily between scientific experts and commercial decision-makers.
What you bring:
- An academic background in pharmacology, biology, toxicology, biotechnology, bioanalysis or a related field (minimum MSc);
- Demonstrable experience in business development and/or sales of research services;
- Proven experience with contract research and commercial collaborations;
- Knowledge of, and a strong network within, preclinical drug development with a focus on ADME/DMPK;
- Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
