Consultant Supply Chain Innovations | The Hague
Want to make your mark on our time? Become a Consultant Supply Chain Innovations at TNO in The Hague!
About this position
Design the supply chains of tomorrow, today at TNO.
What will be your role?
Logistics chains are changing at lightning speed. The sector is on the brink of a major transition toward profitable business based on collaboration, automated transport, smarter use of data, and lower emissions.
The Sustainable Transport & Logistics (STL) Research Group at TNO develops and implements groundbreaking supply chain innovations that make the logistics sector future-proof. We create solutions that address societal challenges such as labor shortages, congestion, and climate impact. In addition, through our unique real-world emission measurement programs, the Research Group influences the climate impact of the mobility sector by playing a role in national and international legislation and regulations.
Our key focus is the development of self-organizing logistics, where new forms of collaboration, secure data sharing, and state-of-the-art planning algorithms ensure optimal utilization of sector assets. This enables profitable and sustainable growth for the industry. Combined with our developments in automated transport, this lays the foundation for the physical internet.
What will you do?
As a Consultant Supply Chain Innovations, you will work on innovative projects for industrial clients or government bodies, aiming to create more effective and efficient supply chains. You will develop and execute projects together with colleagues.
Examples include projects in urban environments, construction, innovative concepts for recycling waste streams, and sustainable (zero-emission) home delivery solutions for supermarkets. Colleagues previously realized the TalkingTrucks project, where a fleet of trucks was managed without human planners thanks to decentralized planning algorithms.
You will typically work on multiple research projects simultaneously, each in different phases. One morning you might be drafting a new project proposal, while in the afternoon you are developing a self-organizing planning system with colleagues. The next day, you could be presenting findings to clients or writing clear final reports.
In addition to working with TNO colleagues, you will collaborate closely with partners such as universities, applied research institutes, government bodies, and market players. You actively build your network and contribute to acquiring new assignments.
What we expect from you
You will ensure that logistics innovations align with the perspectives and expectations of our clients. Through strong communication skills, the right expertise, and an understanding of diverse interests, you elevate our (national and international) research projects to a high level.
You communicate effectively and easily build relationships both inside and outside the organization. If you notice a project is deviating from the original plan or that results could be presented better to clients, you are not afraid to raise these issues and provide clear advice for improvement. You switch smoothly between different stakeholders and projects, always managing your time wisely.
You are eager to learn, continuously developing yourself and embracing new information and tasks. You have a strong drive to contribute to a sustainable future as part of a team. With a proactive, systematic, and professional attitude, you deliver high-quality work based on sound methodologies—even under complex, politically sensitive circumstances. You also see opportunities in unexpected situations and changes.
What you bring
- A Master’s or PhD in a relevant field such as logistics and mobility, transport engineering, mathematics, urban planning, spatial development, (technical) business administration, or econometrics—preferably with a transport or spatial component.
- Experience working in the supply chain sector, preferably as a consultant.
- Knowledge and experience in software product development is a plus, given our focus area.
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills, enabling you to distinguish main issues from details in complex problems.
- Ability to build and maintain a network in the logistics and public sectors as well as the research community.
- A keen, connecting attitude that naturally involves various internal and external stakeholders. You understand different interests and needs and can bring them together to enable effective collaboration and decision-making.
- Initiative and accountability.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Dutch and English.
What you'll get in return
Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 4.400,- and € 6.500,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.
TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:
- An extremely professional, innovative working environment where colleagues are leading experts in their field.
- The opportunity to attend courses, workshops and conferences, and to receive training and coaching based on your needs.
- 33 days annual leave on a full-time basis.
- An employer that values and encourages diverse talent, with initiatives like the Female Leadership Program, our Rainbow Community and round tables on inclusion topics.
- We offer a comprehensive and flexible mobility plan that also includes full compensation for public transportation for commuting and business travel.
- Great social events with your team and other TNO colleagues. That’s how you will get to know a lot of people really quickly.
- Flexible working hours, the possibility to work parttime (32 of 36 hours) and the possibility of working from home.
- Extensive relocation package for international candidates.
- A good pension scheme.
