Computer Vision Integration Engineer | The Hague

Leave Your Mark on Our Time? Join TNO as a Computer Vision Integration Engineer in The Hague!

About this position

Are you fascinated by intelligent systems and eager to contribute to groundbreaking applications in computer vision for a safer world? Then we are looking for you! As a Computer Vision Integration Engineer, you will work within TNO’s Defence and Security unit and the Intelligent Imaging expertise group. Together with your colleagues, you will ensure that innovative solutions truly make an impact for our Defence clients. The Intelligent Imaging group is a passionate, creative, and dedicated team of about 50 professionals specializing in developing cutting-edge computer vision applications. Our team members have diverse backgrounds, ranging from computer science to artificial intelligence. Intelligent Imaging is a young and growing department that has built extensive expertise in AI and deep learning over the past years, focusing on integrating these technologies into practical applications. In both small and large projects, you will collaborate with colleagues from other expertise groups, inside and outside the defence domain. We provide a thorough onboarding program and strive to match your talents with the best opportunities within the group.

What will be your role?

You will contribute to a variety of high-TRL projects, often executed in teams. Together, you will rapidly integrate the latest techniques into prototypes and demonstrators for clients in industry and government. Depending on the project, you might develop a prototype to showcase a new technology’s potential or work alongside industry partners at the end-user site to integrate and demonstrate your software. At TNO, we work in close-knit teams of professionals in an open and informal culture across multiple domains for a safer world. Here are some examples of projects you will be involved in:

  • Enhancing Defence information capabilities: Obtaining reliable information is time-consuming and often dangerous for Defence. That’s why TNO collaborates with Dutch Defence and the international defence industry on unmanned, robotic, and decision-support systems. Examples include detecting roadside bombs using algorithms embedded in robotic systems or conducting surveillance operations to protect critical areas with algorithms onboard (un)manned aircraft.
  • Integrating vision into complete systems: Deep learning models are improving, but there is still much to gain by integrating image recognition into entire systems. Think of controlling a camera to map an area as effectively as possible or processing detection results into follow-up actions. At TNO, we integrate our algorithms into commercially available systems for use by Defence clients.
  • Remote execution of complex tasks: There is growing demand for performing complex tasks remotely, such as delivering healthcare or carrying out repairs in hazardous locations like oil platforms or disaster zones. Robots are increasingly used for these tasks. While robots can do a lot autonomously, human expertise remains essential due to the complexity involved. At TNO, we develop solutions that allow experts to log into a robot and collaborate with it to perform tasks remotely. Within Intelligent Imaging, we focus on automatic scene reconstruction, scene recognition, object manipulation or avoidance, and efficient sensor data handling.

What we expect from you

Your strong communication skills enable you to express yourself clearly to colleagues and clients. You are customer-oriented and decisive, allowing you to work effectively in a team toward results that are practical and valuable for our clients. You are socially adept, easily connect with different stakeholders, and know how to build effective relationships both internally and externally. Furthermore, you are pragmatic and eager to develop further in your field. Affinity with the defence and security domain is important to us.

What you bring:

  • A completed academic degree (MSc or PhD) in computer science, physics, mathematics, electrical engineering, robotics, medical imaging, or artificial intelligence.
  • Experience with Python is essential. You apply a structured and methodical approach to software development, preferably complemented by interest in computer vision, deep learning, and experience with Linux.
  • You are driven by working technology and have affinity (and preferably experience) with hardware and field testing.
  • Familiarity with Git, unit testing, and issue tracking.
  • Proficiency in English and Dutch (minimum B2 level).

If you do not meet all these requirements but believe you are a strong fit for this role, we would still love to hear from you.

In your motivation letter, we would like to read about:

  • Your knowledge and experience in software development, prototype testing, or system design.
  • Your contribution to software integration in a recent project.
  • A recent challenging problem you solved through teamwork.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 4,000 and € 6,000 (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

Perhaps you would like to grow your career in the direction of commerce or consultancy? Or would you like to become a project manager? Immerse yourself in sustainable innovations? Or carve out a career as a technical expert?

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:
