Want to make your mark on our time? Become a Business Controller at TNO in Delft!

About this position

As a Business Controller within the Mobility & Built Environment unit, you work in close collaboration with the Unit Controller to provide management with insight into the unit’s financial and business performance. Together with the control team (a total of 7 FTE), you contribute to improving this performance and play a key role in coordinating, executing, and monitoring the financial planning and control cycle. In this role, you help further develop and prepare financial management reports, draw up business plans, prepare the budget, and support the realization of the organization’s and unit’s strategy and objectives. In addition, you assess, supervise, and manage large, high-risk programs and projects within the unit.

What will be your role?

As a Business Controller, you support and advise the Research Managers and the Director of Operations of the unit on financial management and control of their areas of responsibility, including reporting. You assess cost calculations and risks and provide advice on the acceptance of large-scale projects. In addition, you perform further financial reviews of business cases and investment decisions. In certain programs or projects, you are responsible for the functional leadership of a controlling team.

What we expect from you

  • You have completed a university-level (MSc) degree in business economics or a related field; an RA (Registered Accountant) qualification is a strong plus.
  • As an Assistant Unit Controller, you have at least 5 years of relevant work experience and demonstrable multi-year experience in providing financial support for large-scale and/or complex projects and programs.
  • Preferably, you have (functional) managerial experience and possess strong persuasive skills, enabling you to be successful in a complex environment with highly educated professionals.
  • You have experience in implementing new ideas, team building, and establishing and maintaining relationships.
  • Excellent command of the Dutch and English languages, both spoken and written.
