Senior Enterprise Architect | The Hague

Want to make your mark on our time? Become a Senior Enterprise Architect at TNO in The Hague!

About this position

Working at TNO means contributing to research and innovative applications that truly matter. Examples include the energy transition, the application of safe AI in healthcare, the future of digital identity, and our overall security. As an Enterprise Architect, your challenge is to ensure—at a corporate level—the development, expansion, replacement, and maintenance of the many complex networks and IT infrastructures that enable more than 5,000 TNO employees, across 20 locations in the Netherlands (and beyond), to carry out their daily work and research.

What will be your role?

As a Senior Enterprise Architect, you are—together with six direct colleagues—responsible for developing, promoting, and safeguarding TNO’s enterprise architecture. You act as a strategic advisor to management and help the organization make future-proof choices in the areas of information management and IT.

You work closely with a wide range of TNO colleagues, such as architects, project managers, product owners, security officers, and stakeholders within TNO’s research and support departments.

Examples of typical activities in this role:

  • Developing and maintaining the enterprise architecture vision and roadmaps, in line with TNO’s strategy.
  • Advising the Executive Board, senior leadership, and management on strategic IT and information-related issues.
  • Assessing programs and projects against architectural principles and frameworks.
  • Translating organizational and research objectives into concrete architectural decisions.
  • Safeguarding coherence between business, data, applications, and infrastructure within a technologically diverse landscape.
  • Contributing to the further development of themes such as Generative AI, data quality, strategic autonomy, and software development, as well as supporting projects and programs that realize these themes.
  • Actively contributing to architecture governance and the professionalization of architecture within TNO.
  • Inspiring colleagues in the field of architecture and strategic thinking.

What we expect from you

  • Academic level of work and thinking (minimum completed HBO/BSc degree).
  • At least 8–10 years of relevant experience in architecture roles, preferably as an Enterprise Architect within a complex organization.
  • Proven experience with enterprise architecture frameworks (such as TOGAF or comparable).
  • Extensive knowledge of information management, IT landscapes, data architecture, and cloud concepts.
  • Experience working in a governance‑complex, knowledge‑intensive environment.
  • Strong advisory skills and the ability to bridge strategy and execution (translating abstract concepts into practical application and implementation).
  • Excellent communication skills and persuasive ability.
  • Proactive mindset, strong analytical capabilities, and organizational sensitivity.
  • Excellent command of both Dutch and English, verbally and in writing.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 6.850,- and € 8.500,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:

  • An extremely professional, innovative working environment where colleagues are leading experts in their field.

  • An employer that values and encourages diverse talent, with initiatives like the Female Leadership Program, our Rainbow Community and round tables on inclusion topics.
  • We offer a comprehensive and flexible mobility plan that also includes full compensation for public transportation for commuting and business travel.
  • Great social events with your team and other TNO colleagues. That’s how you will get to know a lot of people really quickly.
