Towards the quantum age: pioneering for innovations and start-ups in the Netherlands
Ever heard of a qubit? This basic element of a quantum computer can exist in multiple states at the same time. Sounds like science fiction, right? And yet: these kinds of wondrous phenomena form the basis of quantum technology, which will be here before you know it. The Netherlands strives to be at the forefront of this technological revolution, and TNO has been working hard towards this since 2014. Together with start-ups, established companies, and universities, we are working on futuristic-sounding applications, including lightning-fast computers, unhackable communications, and super-accurate measurements. Not only is it exciting, but it also represents an opportunity to make the Netherlands smarter, more secure, and more sustainable.
How we are making an impact

Quantum is not a niche, it’s geopolitics.
‘The Netherlands is now able to build on its leading global position in quantum technology and generate new business. And that is crucial, because quantum is not a niche, it is geopolitical.’ - Rogier Verberk, Director of Semicon & Quantum at TNO

At TNO, we are preparing the Netherlands for the quantum era.
‘At TNO, we are making sure everything is ready for quantum computing. We are solving problems that other companies have not even thought about yet.’ - Ines Corveira Rodrigues, Quantum Scientist at TNO

Testing capacity is the key to succesfull quantumchips.
Testing capacity will be the key to success for quantum chips, yet at the same time it is the biggest bottleneck. That is the challenge we are tackling.’ - Garrelt Alberts, Managing Director of Orange Quantum Systems
