Within our Circular Electronics team, part of the Environmental Modelling Sensing & Analysis research group, we develop innovative solutions to make material and product value chains more sustainable. Our work is focused on strengthening the strategic autonomy of both Europe and the Netherlands by advancing circular value chains for critical raw materials and other metals. In addition, we develop innovative and sustainable technologies for the recycling of waste electronics. These innovations contribute to reduced chemical consumption, lower waste generation, and significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions compared with conventional pyro- and hydrometallurgical recycling processes.
Additionally, I am leading the National Growth Fund project CRM Lion, a consortium dedicated to developing a new Dutch value chain and scaling up the industrial recycling of end-of-life batteries. The aim is to transform these batteries into valuable secondary critical raw materials, helping to secure a sustainable and resilient supply of essential materials for the future.
