Eye irritation

TNO aims not only to develop alternative testing methods, but also to support their acceptance and broader use.

The more an alternative is used the more it contributes to reaching 3R goals. An example of TNO’s work to replace animal testing is a test to determine the effects of (chemical) substances on eye safety. This testing method uses left-over tissue from poultry processing instead of live animals. The method has recently been formally accepted by the OCED, an international organisation for co-operation and economic development.
