Senior Process Engineer Hybrid & Printed Electronics | Eindhoven

Want to make your mark on our time? Become a Senior Process Engineer Hybrid & Printed Electronics at TNO in Eindhoven!

About this position

Within Holst Centre, printed electronics plays a key role in enabling ultra-thin, flexible, stretchable, and low-cost electronic devices. These technologies are applied in domains such as medical and wearable devices (e.g. ultrasound patches and biosensors), photonics (optical wireless communication), and advanced chip packaging. Many of these applications are hybrid by nature, combining printed functionality with conventional components such as chips and LEDs. To strengthen our team, we are looking for a Senior Process Engineer Hybrid & Printed Electronics. In this role, you operate at the interface of materials science, process technology, and microelectronics, translating innovative concepts into robust and scalable process solutions in close collaboration with industry.

What will be your role?

As Senior Process Engineer Hybrid & Printed Electronics, you are responsible for developing, optimizing, and integrating processes for next-generation printed and hybrid electronic devices. You work in a multidisciplinary research environment and play a leading role in collaborative projects with international industrial partners. Your work directly contributes to turning advanced research into practical, manufacturable technologies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and optimizing printing, interconnect, and assembly processes for advanced printed electronics and photonics devices.
  • Enabling hybrid integration of printed functionality with conventional components such as chips and LEDs, while maintaining device thinness, flexibility, and stretchability.
  • Applying your expertise in materials, processes, and device design to solve complex integration challenges.
  • Taking technical responsibility in collaborative R&D projects with international industrial partners.
  • Interacting closely with customers and partners on a day-to-day basis, aligning technical progress with project objectives.
  • Analyzing experimental data, drawing conclusions, and clearly communicating results to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contributing to knowledge building, best practices, and technology roadmaps within the printed electronics domain.
  • Acting as a senior technical reference and sparring partner within the team.

What we expect from you

You are an experienced process engineer with a strong background in microelectronics and a passion for translating innovative ideas into practical technologies. You combine hands-on experimentation with analytical thinking and enjoy working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
You also bring the following qualifications:

  • A BSc degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in microelectronics or related process engineering environments.
  • Experience with printed electronics is a strong plus.
  • A hands-on mentality, with the ability to organize and execute practical work in an efficient and cooperative manner.
  • Strong skills in data handling, analysis, and interpretation, and the ability to clearly communicate results.
  • Experience working in collaborative projects with industrial partners or customers.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • A proactive, structured, and solution-oriented mindset, with the ability to take ownership and lead technical topics.
