Consultant – Data Sovereignty
About this position
Would you like to be part of a team that is globally leading in making the latest innovations in data sharing within open ecosystems practically applicable? Join TNO as a Consultant in Data Sovereignty.
What will be your role?
We work in sectors such as logistics, (smart) industry, defence & security, health, and energy. Our vision is to innovate in and with these sectors to create future-proof solutions that enable trusted data sharing. TNO is a leading contributor to the European data strategy—open ecosystems for sharing data in a scalable, interoperable, and sovereign way.
The Data Ecosystems (DE) department hosts top experts and international thought leaders in areas such as Data Spaces and semantics. As a consultant, you are the link between government, industry, and TNO. You combine content expertise with stakeholder engagement: you’re the first point of contact for both large international organisations and SMEs or industry associations. You translate state-of-the-art knowledge and technologies into concrete technical or business-oriented solutions.
TNO is at the forefront of developing guidelines and platforms for data sharing. Topics include semantics, data sovereignty, secure data sharing, and federated systems. This makes us a valuable guide for organisations tackling complex data-related challenges. It is your role to connect these various areas of expertise and help shape impactful solutions for our partners and clients.
One example of a current application within Data Ecosystems is Digital Product Passports (DPP): an information system that provides insight into product sustainability throughout the value chain. DPP supports the circular economy by enabling material reuse and increasing transparency on environmental impact. You will contribute to developing new IT systems that enable interoperability between manufacturers and offer controlled data access for analyses with economic, ecological, and ethical value.
The guiding principles of the department: Collaboration and Connection.
What we expect from you
You are a natural connector—between departments, technologies, markets, and people. You bring in-depth knowledge of IT technologies and experience with the various aspects and complexities of data sharing. You are capable of conducting thorough analyses and actively contribute to reports, research, and EU deliverables. You can translate client needs into clear specifications for your TNO colleagues and present TNO’s innovative solutions in a clear, creative, and enthusiastic way to (potential) partners.
At TNO, you’ll have a lot of freedom to organise your work in the way that suits you best. This also comes with responsibility: you’re someone who takes initiative, works independently, and knows how to find the information you need. At the same time, you understand the importance of staying connected with colleagues, even when they are spread out across the country.
What you bring:
- A Master’s degree in a relevant field, such as Computer Science, Business Information Systems, Business Informatics, Industrial Engineering, or Operational Research.
- A strong interest in the technical side of IT, particularly system integration, semantic technologies, decentralised data sharing technologies, the circular economy, or collaborative business models.
- A few years of relevant work experience, for example in the industrial sector, logistics, or mobility.
- The drive and potential to truly be that bridge builder—translating client challenges into research questions, conducting the research, and converting technical outcomes into tangible value.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Dutch and English.
What you'll get in return
Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 4.500,- and € 6.600,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.
TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:
- An extremely professional, innovative working environment where colleagues are leading experts in their field.
