Consultant Air Quality and Emissions Research | Utrecht
About this position
Within the Energy and Materials Transition Unit, our AER (Air Quality and Emissions Research) research group analyses the impact of human activities on air quality and atmospheric deposition in ecosystems. Our research group mainly deals with projects within the fields of assimilation of emission data based on Earth observations from space, emission inventories, and chemical transport modelling of air pollutants. Research topics anticipated for the next few years include estimates of greenhouse gas emissions observed by satellites, high-resolution air quality modelling, nitrogen deposition, and the emissions and dispersion of ultrafine particles. Through our research, knowledge development, and consultancy, we contribute to state-of-the-art data and innovative solutions that help combat climate change, improve air quality, and enhance biodiversity and public health. Whatever project you are involved in, working in the field of Air Quality and Emissions is guaranteed to be diverse, innovative, and impactful.
What will be your role?

- You are able to establish a strategy and vision for local air quality modelling in collaboration with our research team and take responsibility for quality, maintenance, and a development plan.
- You are able to advise on the model strategy to be followed in collaboration with various research groups and to enthuse or convince others of your reasoning both internally and externally.
- You are familiar with local air quality models in the EU/NL and relevant legislation.
- You are proficient in programming languages such as Python and preferably Fortran.
- You are familiar with geospatial tools for visualising air quality results.
