Project Manager ICT - The Hague

Contributing to the IT – solutions of tomorrow. Envision it. Become a project manager ICT at TNO in The Hague!

About this position

A powerful digital future in the Netherlands and Europe is unthinkable without research and innovation. Fortunately, TNO is bursting with exciting project plans, which, thanks to you, will actually come to fruition! As a project manager ICT at TNO, you’ll work at the cutting edge of applied research and pragmatic ICT solutions, in domains like energy transition, smart industry or defense. Join our enthusiastic group of ICT specialists and take the lead in project teams. Together with companies, universities, research centres, and the government, you’ll work on innovations for the benefit of Dutch society! The research group Intelligent Cyber-physical Systems Engineering (ICSE) is your home base. From Groningen and The Hague, more than 35 scientists, researchers, and consultants prove the added value of digital applications every day. You’ll also work closely with colleagues from other departments and units. ICSE is a great mix of highly qualified women and men with different levels of experience and of various nationalities. We all have a passion for applied research and we enjoy talking about it in an open and informal atmosphere we’re there for each other, support each other, and are open to your ideas!

What will be your role?

You’ll manage several research projects at same time. The scope of these projects varies from B2B consultancy to long-term, subsidized national or European projects. Especially in projects involving consortia, stakeholder management is a crucial task because of the differing and sometimes conflicting interests. You’ll monitor the common goal and the progress of the project. You’ll develop innovative proofs-of-concept and demonstrators together with your often multidisciplinary teams. To this end, your teams will work with the (first time engineering of) Digital Twins, adaptive algorithms, (agentic) AI etc.

Your focus will initially be on Dutch projects, but depending on your interests, you’ll have the chance to move on to European projects.

What we expect from you

You’re energized by managing multidisciplinary research projects. The intrinsic uncertainties of innovative projects with unknown outcomes do not throw you off course. Inspiring people, but also structuring the creativity of researches in order to achieve a feasible result together, is in your DNA. With your communication skills, you can persuade your team, clients, partners, and other stakeholders. You also know how to deal with sensitivities and the interests that are at stake. And of course you do this within budget and schedule and according to quality requirements. And if you can’t work something out, there are always colleagues willing to think along with you or support you!

Other knowledge and skills you bring to TNO:

  • A Master’s degree or PhD in computer science or equivalent.
  • A couple of years (3-5 years) experience of project management.
  • An excellent command of Dutch and English, as you’ll be working with international teams and for Dutch clients.
  • Preferably: experience of IPMA or other project management methods.
