Projectmanager Intelligence & Decision Support | The Hague
Want to make your mark on our time? Become a Projectmanager Intelligence & Decision Support at TNO in The Hague!
About this position
Conflicts, crime, and subversive activities threaten our safety worldwide. To counter these threats, our Intelligence & Decision Support (IDS) department conducts innovative research and applies it in collaboration with our security partners. IDS supports organizations such as the Ministry of Defence and the Police in making well-informed decisions and executing semi-automated actions they can rely on. We achieve this through applied research and the development of innovative ideas. Examples include the use of intelligence for Defence, developing decision support models for the Public Prosecution Service, and applying NLP to analyze criminal communications
What will be your role?
As a project manager, you will join the Intelligence & Decision Support (IDS) department, which consists of 35 dedicated experts with backgrounds in applied mathematics, data science, artificial intelligence, criminology, and intelligence. They work with security partners on projects that are often complex in nature and scope. Under your leadership, these projects will be successfully developed, executed, and delivered. You will ensure clear expectations, high-quality output, and adherence to agreements and budgets. You’ll keep both clients and team members satisfied, even when things don’t go as planned or results differ from expectations. You’ll guide and coach your team to bring out the best in themselves and the project.
You’ll work in a multidisciplinary team with experts from various fields, both within and outside IDS, and in close collaboration with clients and partners. As a project manager, you will simultaneously lead 2–5 projects of varying sizes and actively contribute to initiating new research projects. In this role, you act as the link between subject matter experts and stakeholders. Your task is to steer the project effectively, ensuring alignment with the team, clients, and stakeholders. You’ll also work on increasing TNO’s visibility through publications and presentations.
You’ll have the freedom to work in a way that suits you, with ample opportunities to consult and share experiences with other project managers. IDS is a diverse department that regularly organizes activities to exchange knowledge and experiences and, of course, to have fun both in and outside of work.
What we expect from you
As a project manager, you can strike a balance between strong content results, client satisfaction, team spirit, and available resources (time and budget). You speak the language of subject matter experts and can translate their work for other partners. You’re adept at switching between projects and stakeholders, always aiming for the best outcomes. For each project, you set a clear goal and ensure all parties remain aligned with it. Thanks to your precise and structured working style, everyone knows what to expect and the project’s current status.
You have a completed academic degree, for example in artificial intelligence, applied mathematics, data science, linguistics, or business analytics or you’ve developed your expertise in another way after your studies. This enables you to quickly grasp the work your team is doing. You also have a clear affinity with the Defence and Security domain. You have at least 5 years of experience leading (project) teams of 5 to 10 people (or more) and are eager to grow further in this role. Strong communication skills, soft skills, and a client- and results-oriented mindset are essential to work effectively in a team and deliver value to our partners. You are fluent in both Dutch and English, spoken and written.
