The largest part of the international and diverse SEM department is located in Delft, however the TFE team is located in Eindhoven. The TFE team actively participates in large research projects primarily in the fields of High Tech Equipment design for Immersion Lithography and High Performance Thermal Management (micro cooling). Other research contributions are made on the topics of sustainability for semicon, such as gas recycling and electrification of the chemical industry. The projects are funded by governmental entities or by companies and organisations such as ASML, Brightsite and NXP.

Tools often used for analysis are Matlab/Python and (commercially) available numerical packages such as: Comsol, Fluent, Ansys or OpenFoam. Typical topics are phase transition, micro-fluidics, two phase flow and plasma-process interaction.
