Senior Process Engineer Metrology | Eindhoven

Want to make your mark on our time? Become a Senior Process Engineer Metrology at TNO in Eindhoven!

About this position

At the forefront of Europe’s photonics innovation, TNO is building a state-of-the-art pilot line for Indium Phosphide (InP) photonic chips at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven. As part of the EU-funded PIXEurope program, this pilot line enables the transition from advanced process development to industrial-scale manufacturing, ensuring high yield, quality, and reliability of photonic technologies. To support the further development and scaling of this pilot line, we are looking for an experienced Process Engineer. In this role, you play a key part in defining, challenging, and improving metrology processes in a cleanroom environment. You ensure stable, reliable, and scalable measurement performance as processes evolve from development towards industrialisation. You operate at the interface of process development, manufacturing, and technology integration, contributing directly to yield improvement, quality assurance, and productivity optimization.

What will be your role?

As Process Engineer Metrology, you are responsible for defining, monitoring, and improving metrology processes that support the wafer manufacturing process. You will work together with process engineers specialized in epitaxy, lithography, dry- and wet etching and metallization to provide state-of-the-art inline metrology to control the production line. You will be part of a dynamic pilot line environment where processes continuously evolve from development towards industrialisation.

Key responsibilities

  • Define and execute projects related to capacity expansion, process automation, process stability, performance improvement, defect detection and root cause analysis;
  • Enable the monitoring, analysis, and optimization of Statistical Process Control (SPC) on wafer level to improve yield and meet quality, cost, and productivity targets;
  • Ensure high quality, calibrated and reliable metrology data and provide results into clear and structured technical reports;
  • Contribute to the development, qualification, and introduction of new metrology processes and hardware;
  • Troubleshoot metrology and process-related issues in a cleanroom environment;
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams such as integration, R&D, ICT and operations to plan and execute technology development on schedule;
  • Report progress, analysed results, and improvement opportunities to internal stakeholders and customers;
  • Review product and process requirements together with manufacturing teams to ensure compatibility with processing and metrology methods.

What we expect from you

You are a hands-on process engineer with a strong analytical mindset and a solid background in semiconductor metrology within a cleanroom environment.

You bring:

  • A Master’s degree or PhD in Applied Physics, Electronics, Photonics, or a related scientific discipline;
  • Multiple years of experience in semiconductor metrology, including data analysis and technical reporting;
  • Hands-on experience with (automated-) metrology tools for defect inspection and process control;
  • A strong understanding of semiconductor device physics and microelectronics engineering;
  • Experience with experimental design and data analysis (DOE), technical report writing, and customer presentations;
  • A structured approach to risk management and problem solving, using methodologies such as FMEA, DMAIC, or 8D;
  • The ability to work effectively in a pilot line and scale-up environment, understanding its pace and challenges.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:
