In addition, TNO-GDN conducts applied research on a variety of subsurface related challenges including sustainable geo-energy, raw materials, subsurface management and groundwater stewardship. Your home base will be the geochemistry team within the Hydrology and Reservoir Engineering research group in Utrecht.

What will be your role?

Your activities may encompass geochemical modelling, lab and field research, and interpretation of geochemical datasets using statistical, geostatistical or AI techniques.

What we expect from you

You are driven to enable sustainable subsurface use and to bridge scientific knowledge to societal challenges. You enjoy working in a diverse team on a broad range of topics. You are able to work independently and approach your work with curiosity, motivation, and a proactive attitude. Working closely with experts in various technical fields, you are eager to learn from them and expand your own in-depth knowledge. Lastly, you have good communication and presentation skills to inform colleagues and partners about your research.

  • A demonstrable interest or passion for sustainable subsurface management.
  • A completed Master’s degree or a PhD in environmental geochemistry or soil chemistry, or similar.
  • Experience in geochemical model codes (e.g. geochemical work bench, PHREEQC, or similar).
  • Experience in or affinity with experimental lab and field research and/or AI or ML techniques.
  • Good command of the English language, as you will be working with an international team and international partners. In addition, a good command of the Dutch language or the willingness to learn it.
