Insensitive Munition (IM) responds moderately to fire, impact by shrapnel, detonation of nearby munition and shaped charges. Insensitive Munition still functions as intended despite the alterations made to make the munitions less sensitive. TNO researches this topic extensively to improve munition safety but also provides qualification of munition according to STANAG requirements.

Setups of fast cook-off, slow cook-off and fragment impact

For STANAG 4439 TNO can provide all necessary tests:

  • Bullet Impact
  • Fragment impact (for fragments up to 2530 m/s)
  • Fast Cook-Off
  • Slow Cook-Off
  • Shaped Charge
  • Sympathetic Detonation

Additional measuring equipment such as high speed cameras or pressure gauges can be deployed depending on the customer's requirements.
