In my research I focus on wireless communication technologies for mobile networks (4G, 5G, etc.), ranging from wireless system design, radio network resource management (both model-based and AI-based), to physical-layer technologies abstraction and radio propagation. My recent research activities aim to design and develop flexible, robust and intelligent wireless networking, in particular radio network architecture and management mechanisms, to fulfil dynamically varying needs (e.g. extremely high data rate, low latency and high device density) of different applications (smart manufacturing, e-health, smart mobility, etc.). With the worldwide deployment of 5G networks, my research is shifting toward beyond 5G (6G) radio network technologies. My research work contributes directly to the PMC cluster “Fast and Open Infrastructures” within the TNO ICT Unit.
In the past years, I have been focusing on how 5G may empower telecom sector as well as vertical sectors (smart industry, e-Health, smart mobility, etc.), and its social impact. I have initiated/am initiating new national and international research projects (proposals), e.g. H2020 EU-Taiwan Clear5G (as Technical Manager), H2020 5G-HEART, NWA Wireless Industry, in close collaboration with National Taiwan University and other (inter)national academic partners, telecom industry and vertical stakeholders. I was co-chair of the mobile group of GreenTouch, management committee member of COST IC1004 and COST IRACON, and serves in the Expert Advisory Group of the European NetWorld2020 organization. In 2020, I have jointly proposed a new COST Action INTERACT, focusing on new emerging radio communication technologies, together with other 84 industrial and academic partners in the whole Europe and internationally.
