Janot Tokaya

Janot focuses on advancing understanding of particulate matter (PM) in the atmosphere. This work is vital, as PM causes serious health risks, plays a significant yet still uncertain role in climate change and affects signal propagation through scattering and absorption with implications for optical communication, satellite imaging, and related technologies.
Thanks to the extensive expertise and many years of experience within TNO’s air quality modelling and emissions teams, Janot builds on state-of-the-art knowledge and data on atmospheric composition. His work focuses on the further development of the LOTOS-EUROS chemical transport model for air quality applications, with an emphasis on particulate matter.
Leveraging this expertise and data, he addresses questions related to optical communication, visibility, solar radiation, satellite data interpretation, and related fields.
The modelling framework also provides unique insights into the sources and origins of particulate matter. Additionally, it enables the prediction of particulate matter concentrations and its chemical composition in both the near future (using weather forecasts) and the far future (through scenario-based simulations).
