Working at TNO safety, (cyber)security and defence

We’re looking for recently graduated university students with a technical degree or PhD graduates/candidates with several years of work experience and an interest in working for TNO. If you’d enjoy the challenge of working on the assignments TNO is carrying out for the police, the Netherlands’ Ministry of Defence, and the Ministry of Justice and Security, check out the vacancies below.

what your future colleagues have to say

Bart Sander, team leader in the guarding, security & counter-terrorism team:

"Together with my colleagues of the Networked Organisations (NO) expertise group, one of my areas of focus is improving the networks vital to the physical safety of our society. Think of the police, the Netherlands’ military police (Royal Netherlands Marechaussee), municipalities, intelligence and safety services, and ministries."

"At TNO, you are given ample freedom to decide what you want to do. There’s always space for new initiatives, and an entrepreneurial mindset is appreciated. Partly because of this, but mostly thanks to the trust my colleagues had in me, I was able to become a team leader relatively quickly. Working together with highly experienced colleagues, in this role I am part of a robust team focused on the implementation of innovations and the wider sharing of successful projects."

Robert Muller, junior scientist and innovator:

"Electronic Defence develops techniques that allow Defence and other customers to get a head start on an adversary. We are a broad department and we have five pillars of research, from protection against roadside bombs to electromagnetic signatures. We improve techniques, but also do fundamental research and come up with solutions ourselves.”

"What we're doing here, you don't learn in any other study. And we need everyone from across the higher education range, including PhDs – there’s a role for everyone. I never expected to end up at TNO, but I got an interview and there was an immediate connection. TNO has a wide variety of projects and expertise in-house, I realised that this could be the place for me to flourish. This is mainly due to the balance between theory and application. That's hard to find at other companies."
