A system with which our armed forces can fool opponents’ radar systems. An application to disrupt walkie-talkie communications in conflict zones. Or a method to mislead the navigation data of enemy systems. You’ll be the substantive expert and leader in these projects in the field of electromagnetic innovation. They’re all different, but they all have one thing in common: they all directly or indirectly contribute to peace and security.

What will be your role?

The Royal Netherlands Navy will be replacing a large part of its fleet in the upcoming years. The new ships benefit from an excellent information position and will be equipped with the most advanced sensors and sensor concepts. The systems which you, as an innovator of radar surveillance and countermeasures, will focus on will contribute to this information position by continuously monitoring the electromagnetic spectrum for the presence of (hostile) radar signals, interpreting these signals, and combining them with knowledge of the own radar signature. Doing so will optimally position ships to take appropriate countermeasures against hostile radar systems in the event of an acute threats. You’ll be helping to improve and future-proof this process by making intelligent use of modern techniques in the fields of parameter estimation, machine learning and tracking, in models, simulations, on-board experiments and measurements, and data analysis.

The sixty highly qualified electrical engineers, physicists, and mathematicians of TNO’s world-leading Electronic Defence team are seeking the answers to such questions and helping to develop electromagnetic innovations. We mainly work for clients within the defence, police, and justice sectors.
We collaborate with national and international partners in multidisciplinary projects, on scientific panels, and in NATO working groups.
