RF Test and Measurement Engineer

Wat will you be doing?
Within the radar technology department, the RF metrology team provides tailor-made, state-of-the-art measurement solutions in expertise areas like IC design, EM/antennas, and signal processing. Together with scientist from these areas we strive to technological breakthroughs for state-of-the-art RF sensor systems.

Currently, we are seeking a highly motivated RF Test and Measurement Engineer to join our team and to plan, perform and automate hands-on RF-measurements (> 1GHz). As RF Test and Measurement Engineer, you will work together with experts from all the above-mentioned expertise. The particular focus of your work will be determined based on your previous experience and ambitions.

What we expect from you

You have strong communication skills that enable you to effectively collaborate with a diverse group of colleagues across various disciplines. Your enthusiasm for hands-on work shows through your experience with test setups in the lab and/or outdoor field test campaigns. You are a team player who also shows initiative and independence when solving technical challenges. Given the nature of the work, you're open to working primarily from our office in The Hague. Lastly, you're comfortable engaging with projects related to defense applications.

What you also bring to the table:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, preferably with a specialization in RF engineering (or comparable);
  • Experience with RF measurement equipment such as vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, AWGs, signal generators and oscilloscopes;
  • A solid understanding of object-oriented software development and a good working knowledge of Python (Numpy / SciPy, matplotlib, pyVisa, tkinter, …), Python packaging and dependency management (Poetry) as well as version control (git).


Experience that is considered a pre:
While not required, we value prior experience in any of the following areas:

  • Non-linear RF measurements and/or on-wafer RF measurements;
  • Antenna and electromagnetics-related measurement techniques;
  • RF system design;
  • Software-defined radio systems and (near-real time) signal processing in Python (or C++).


Moreover, the following skills are considered a bonus:

  • You are familiar with one or more of the following software tools: Keysight ADS, Ansys HFSS and/or CST, Altium Designer, SolidWorks;
  • You have a working knowledge of Matlab, mainly for signal processing and data analysis;
  • You have experience with EMC testing with a focus on immunity testing;
  • You are a drone enthusiast with some experience in operating and/or putting together drones.


A valid driving license (class B) is appreciated.

The selection process

The selection process comprises two interview rounds. In a final meeting we will discuss the terms of employment and your tailored benefits package. We aim to finalize the entire process within four weeks.

The selection process may include an online assessment and a reference check.

A certificate of Conduct (VOG) is required before starting a new job at TNO. As you will be working for clients in the domain of defence and security, a Certificate of No Objection issued by AIVD (the Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service) is mandatory.
